Rigid Heddle Weaving
January 24 & 31, 2012
5:30 to 8:30 PM (6 hours total) - $65
A basic weaving class - using a warping board to wind a short warp, putting the warp on the loom, weaving it off and finishing the piece of fabric. Students will pick out their own yarn colors - materials cost is included in the tuition. Bring your own rigid-heddle loom to class or use one of ours. Children twelve and up are welcome, especially if accompanied by a class-taking adult.

Paper Cat-Head Basket
January 28, 2012
10:30 AM to 5:00 PM (6 hours, and break) - $55 all levels
Weave a medium sized cat-head basket from heavy multicolored paper. There will be a half-hour lunch break; bring a bagged lunch, or buy one nearby. All necessary materials are provided, and the paper will be already decorated and cut into ready-to-weave strips.

Spinning Wheel Spinning
February 14, 21, 28 & March 6
5:30 to 8:30 PM (12 hours total) - $85
From fleece to a multi-plied yarn. Picking and carding the fleece; spinning a single-ply wool yarn; then plying, washing, and setting. Tuition includes the use of handcards and of a spinning wheel.

Kumihimo Braiding

March 13
5:30 to 8:00PM (2.5 hours total) - $32
Learn the basics of this traditional Japanese craft, using contemporary materials.The class will work on a simple round braid (with or without beads), and a flat one. Students will get started on both, and take them home to finish if there isn't time in class. All materials are included, and the two foam pieces used are yours to keep, and use over and over.

On-Loom Weaving
March 27 & April 3, 10 & 17, 2012
5:30 to 8:30 PM (12 hours total) - $100
An introduction to on-loom weaving with 4 harness looms (floor or table). The students will make a color and twill pattern sampler. Emphasis is on the basics: warp making, winding on and tensioning; correct bobbin winding & shuttle throwing; building an even cloth, developing a steady rhythm; and the elements of fabric design.
