SPINNING: Kromski Wheels

The Kromskis of Wolsztyn, Poland, have been wood turners and wheel workers for three generations. The recently re-engineered wheels retain their characteristic “old world” styling and charm, combining excellent craftsmanship with the features wanted by today’s spinners. They also make a lovely rigid heddle loom, called the Harp, in several widths.

THE SONATA
The Kromskis have put a lot of thought into the Sonata. Full size yet small dimensions when folded, easy to set-up and take down, solid feel, solid footprint, plenty of foot room, easy treadling on double treadles, orifice at a comfortable height and classic looks. Spokes that draw your attention, every piece of wood with cuts, curves and character; this is an appealing spinning wheel that is a pleasure to use. A custom-made, heavily padded bag offers you a convenient way to pack-up your Sonata for travel or storage is now included with your purchase of a Kromski Sonata.

THE SYMPHONY
This 24" wheel rotates on bearing sleeves that contribute to effortless treadling. The double treadles are well engineered to be comfortable through long spinning sessions. The flyer is double drive but also has Scotch tensioning for single drive use (at no additional charge). The bobbins hold a 4 ounces of yarn and fit on all the other Kromski wheels.
Made of European alder and birch, with lots of finely detailed turning. No plastic parts. This wheel comes boxed as a kit and takes about an hour to assemble. It is available unfinished or with clear, walnut or mahogany finish.

THE MAZURKA
A castle wheel with the look of eastern European wheels of old. The novel wheel-within-a-wheel is reminiscent of mazurka dancers spinning round and round. The Mazurka design won recognition for Leon Kromski throughout Poland. Made of European alder and birch, the Mazurka features both double drive and scotch tension spinning.

This wheel comes boxed as a kit and requires assembly. Available unfinished and finished.

THE POLONAISE
A castle wheel with the look of those from the Baltics, with lots of decorative turning detail. Functional wood threaded wheel angle adjustments allow the the spinner to fine-tune the flyer angle. “Pin and socket” bearings support the wheel, offering low friction and exceptional ease of treadling. The wheel hardware sits between the wheel posts and the footman passes through the bench to the treadle. Double drive and scotch tensioning. The Polonaise is made from European alder and birch, and comes boxed as a kit and requires assembly. Available unfinished and finished.

THE MISTREL
This wheel is larger than the Mazurka, with stronger, bolder lines and a larger base to accommodate the larger wheel diameter and the double treadles. It is a double drive wheel but comes standard with Scotch tension set-up (for those who you prefer the single drive feel). A threading hook and extra whorl are conveniently stored up front for easy access.
The Minstrel is made of European alder and birch. The design is perfect wheel for reenactors. Easy to assemble. Available unfinished or with a factory clear, walnut or mahogany finish.
