Sparkly Fibers
We have two kinds of sparkly, man-made fibers. Though the suppliers describe
them differently, they look quite similar and seem to have many of the
same properties. They reflect light extravagantly, shimmer in many colors,
changing when seen from different directions. They can be spun, bonded,
used for needle-felting — or used any other way that you can imagine.
CRYSTAL METALLIC FIBERS
These are shredded Mylar® and metallic film, for blending with any
fibers. Soft and easy to card. A very small amount will add sparkle to
your yarn. We have heat-bonded these according to the directions for the
Angelina Hot-Fix fibers, and they work the same way.
ANGELINA HOT-FIX FIBERS
Soft lustrous fibers that will bond together at relatively low temperatures
to produce a non-woven type of fabric. This occurs when the 'hot-fix'
Angelina fibers soften and fuse together. Place a small amount of fiber
between two sheets of paper. Heat iron to silk temperature setting (about
225°F). Gently, with little pressure, move the iron back and forth,
checking frequently on the bonding progress. Generally, this fiber will
only adhere to itself and not to other fibers, tissue paper or fabrics.
When heat bonded the sheet can then be cut to any shape. These are made
from polyester (as is Mylar®), fibers are 4 inches long, 15 denier.
Sold to us for fusing, they can be blended with other fibers for spinning.
