Looms for Kids
POT-HOLDER LOOMS & LOOPERS
Hook loopers (slices of socks) in one direction across the square frame
and weave through in the other. The woven square is finished by pulling
the end of each loop through the next—the last one forms a hanger. Traditionally,
these are pot-holders; but they can also be sewn together to make mats
or afghans. We have two versions; a plastic one, and a heavier-duty metal
one (from Harrisville) that come with enough loopers to make several potholders.
Both include basic instructions. Loopers are available separately, cotton
or wool (not cheap, but especially nice).
INCH WORMS
A sturdy, carefully crafted version of the old classic; essentially 3,
4 or 5 pegs set into a wooden spool. Wrap yarn on and work it off to produce
a knitted cord.
LITTLE HANDWEAVER BACKSTRAP LOOM
11 popsicle-sticks and the slots between hold 21 warp ends. The warp
is tied from the weaver to something a few feet away. Comes with two
shuttles, shed-stick, tie-up cords, pre-cut warp, and two balls of weft
yarn. A very accessible starting place. Six inch weaving width.

BEKA RIGID HEDDLE

square rods. Comes fully warped and with the weaving begun. Also
a great bead-loom, padded with a little foam. Comes in two sizes,
4 inches wide (at left) or 10 inches wide (at right).
The larger size comes with two heddles, 4 and 10 inches wide.
