WOODEN SWIFTS
Two sizes; one holds skeins up to 73" around, the other up to 100".
METAL SWIFT “The Almighty Reeler”
Mostly metal, sturdy, lightweight, very portable. For skeins up to 62".
SMALLER BALL WINDERS
Built-in clamp, plastic case, nylon gears. They wind a ball 5 inches across.The two versions work the same. We can't always get both, and may need to substitute.
JUMBO BALL WINDER
The Strauch Winder is large, made from wood and very sturdy.
LECLERC HAND-CRANK BOBBIN WINDER
A light but strong hand bobbin winder with completely covered gear.
Tapered shaft for all Leclerc bobbins and spools. Clamps to a table
top up to 1½" thick.
GLIMAKRA HAND-CRANK BOBBIN WINDER
Cast steel body, brass bearings and gears, tapered steel spindle. Fits
paper quills, most sizes of solid bobbins. A lifetime machine, Swedish
made.
ELECTRIC BOBBIN WINDERS: AVL & SCHACHT
Powered by sewing machine motors, controlled by sewing machine treadles,
mounted on a hardwood board. Electric winders are spoilers—you’ll
never want to wind by hand again. These are double-ended winders; they
have a driving cone and a spring-loaded idler cone: they’re for bobbins
and solid quills. AVL has steel cones, Schacht rubber.
